Description
The vanilla orchid (Vanilla planifolia) is a climbing plant up to 15 m long with finger-thick, fleshy stems and white aerial roots transformed into tendrils.
The plant is now cultivated in many tropical countries, outside of Mexico, especially in Madagascar, Réunion and the Comoros.
Vanilla is the second most expensive spice in the world after saffron.
