Description

Erythrina crista-galli is a species of coral tree (Erythrina), a flowering plant in the legume family Erythrina crista-galli is native to Argentina, Uruguay, Brazil, and Paraguay. The species is widely planted as a street and garden tree in California (USA).

Erythrina crista-galli is a small tree, the circumference of the trunk goes approximately up to 50 cm. Normally, it grows 5-8 m tall. The tree blooms in summer, from October to April in South America and from April to October in the Northern Hemisphere.

The flower of the tree is the national flower of Argentina (since December 23, 1942) and Uruguay.

This species grows mainly in gallery forests along watercourses and in swamps and wetlands. In urban environments, it is often planted in parks because of its bright red flowers.
