Syagrus romanzoffiana is the botanical name of a species of palm in South America.
The plant has a wide range from southern Brazil to northern Argentina, eastern Paraguay and Uruguay. Winters are quite short there. The palm is found on moist soils, along rivers and in forests.
The palm can grow up to 15 m high. The plant has a grey stem. The trunk base can sometimes produce aerial roots. The feather leaves are up to 4.5 m long and green. The large inflorescences have both male and female flowers. The yellow-orange fruits have a sweet taste.
